Vinland UM Church

schedules supper

Vinland United Methodist Church will have a taco soup supper with dessert Saturday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. A free-will donation will be accepted.

Project Linus

set in Topeka

Project Linus National Make a Blanket Day will be from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at 2125 N. Kansas Ave., Topeka. Anyone interested in participating should call Bennet's Sewing Center to register.

Those who donate a blanket will have their name entered in a drawing to receive a fully computerized sewing machine. Last year more than 500 blankets were collected to give to Project Linus to be distributed to children in need in northeast Kansas.

First UMC hosts

'Hands of Glory'

The First United Methodist Church will host "Hands of Glory" during its morning worship service at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 27. "Hands of Glory," a group from Ottawa, will share its ministry of contemporary music, signing and movement to music. The groups' ministry of music was presented at the Kansas East Conference at Baker last year. The public is welcome to attend the worship service.

Alex Rothwell

receives promotion

Cadet Alex Rothwell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Rothwell, Baldwin City, was promoted to Private First Class (PFC). Rothwell is a freshman at St. John's Military School, Salina. St. John's was founded in Salina in 1887.

Coal Creek Library

open by appointment

Coal Creek Library, Vinland, will be open during the winter months by appointment only. Visitors should dress warmly. Contact Martha Smith, 594-3960.

S.H.A.F.F. 4-H Club

reports meeting

The February meeting of S.H.A.F.F. 4-H Club was called to order by Garland Miller, president. Roll call was answered by a favorite Valentine. Minutes were read and approved. Melanie Jones presented the treasurer's report. Elizabeth Yardley gave the reporter's report. Dean Kerr gave a project leader's report on rocketry. Diane Wingert reported on County Club Days. Abigail Reese presented a project talk on her foods project and Melanie Jones spoke on her plants project. Nick Lowe demonstrated his foods project and Elizabeth Yardley gave a demonstration on her horse project. Nancy Culley led the members in a word game for parliamentary practice. Snacks were served by the Kerr family.

Clearfield -- Ives youth

schedule meeting

The Clearfield -- Ives Chapel United Methodist Youth Ministry will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Ives Chapel UM Church. Youth 6th through 12th grade are invited.

Bible Studies set

at Baptist Temple

Bible Studies are available at 6 p.m. Sundays at Lighthouse Baptist Temple and at 7 p.m. Wednesday nights. Certified nursery attendants will be available to care for children both times.

The choir is meeting at 8 p.m. on Sunday nights. Community members are welcome to attend Bible Studies and Choir.

ECKAN Agency to

distribute food items

The ECKAN Agnecy will distribute food items to eligible Douglas County commodity participants from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Feb. 24 at Legion Hall.
