Vinland UM Church

schedules supper

Vinland United Methodist Church will have a taco soup supper with dessert Saturday, Feb. 19, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. A free-will donation will be accepted.

Book TALK series

continues at library

The discussion of "In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash" by Jean Shepherd will be at 7 p.m. tonight at Baldwin Public Library.

The series, "That's Funny, Books That Make Us Laugh," is sponsored by the Kansas Humanities Council and the Friends of the Baldwin Library. The next book, "Mama Makes Up Her Mind" by Bailey White will be discussed March 10, and "I'm A Stranger Here Myself" by Bill Bryson on April 7.

Raymond Pearson

celebrates 100th

An open house celebrating the 100th birthday of Raymond Pearson will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at The Lodge.

Friends and family are welcome to attend. No gifts please. Cards may be sent to Raymond Pearson, 1015 Orchard Lane, Apt. 5, Baldwin City, KS 66006.

Baker's Susan Buehler

to present recital

The Baker University Department of Music will feature Susan Buehler, soprano, in a Faculty Recital at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the Collins House Reception Hall. The recital entitled "Love -- Then and Now" will include love songs from the 16th century to the present day.

The presentation of each selection will include recitation of poetry by special guests Preston Fambrough, Professor of English, Daniel Lambert, Baker University president, John Buehler, Chairman of the Music Department and Director of the Division of Fine and Performing Arts, and Charles Bruffy, director of the Kansas City Chamber Chorale and the Phoenix Bach Chorale.

Composers represented on the recital include John Dowland, Roger Quilter, Aaron Copland, Jeanne Shaffer, and Jake Heggie. Buehler will be assisted by Jodie Eldridge, pianist, and Jane Dodgen, flutist. Buehler is in her 20th year of teaching at Baker University and is active as a recitalist, soprano soloist, adjudicator and clinician. There is no admission charge and the public is invited to attend.

Vinland FCE

plans meeting

The Vinland FCE will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Vinland Methodist Church with Mariann Bradley as hostess.

The lesson is "Heart Healthy" given by Paula Johnson. Roll call will be answered by a Valentine memory

Teens- N-Truth to

gather at Lighthouse

Teens-N-Truth meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday evenings at Lighthouse Baptist Temple. Nursery service with certified attendants is available. All teens are welcome.

Young At Heart

to meet for lunch

Young At Heart will meet at 1 p.m. on Feb. 17 at Lighthouse Baptist Temple for a trip to Smokey's in Wellsville for lunch. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Seniors can gather

for potluck and cards

Senior citizens can get together the first and third Fridays of the month to have a potluck and play cards at the senior center. The potluck begins at 6 p.m. and the card playing follows at 7 p.m.
