Baldwin man is arrested
A 32-year-old Baldwin man was arrested last Wednesday by Baldwin police and is charged with three counts of aggravated indecent liberties with minors as a result of alleged incidents that started in the summer and came to light several weeks ago.
"The investigation began several weeks ago as a result of a report the police officer had taken and realized that there was more to the report," said Police Chief Mike McKenna. "Some minors, young girls, were found intoxicated. In interviewing the girls, it was discovered where they had gotten the alcohol from. Further interviews found this had been an ongoing event since this summer.
"He would entertain the young girls and provide alcohol and tobacco products and sexual favors were exchanged," said McKenna.
McKenna declined to give ages on the girls involved and even how many were involved.
"Right now, until we have a preliminary hearing, I'd like to leave it that they are under the age of consent of 16," he said. "There are multiple girls involved. More than one. More than two."
The man was booked into Douglas County Jail after his arrest Dec. 21 around 5 p.m. He made his first appearance in District Court the next day, where bond was set at $100,000.
"He turned himself in," McKenna said.
Police had been working the case for weeks and an arrest had been expected for some time. McKenna was pleased that the wait finally came to an end.
"Yes, we are pleased to finally bring some closure to this case," he said. "It's been a lengthy investigation. Hopefully, we can curtail this type of behavior in Baldwin."
