- Each and every year certain events or outcomes make that year special, and this year was no exception, as successful coaches resigned, Baldwin High School records were broken and many individuals accomplished great things.

- A 32-year-old Baldwin man was arrested last Wednesday by Baldwin police and is charged with three counts of aggravated indecent liberties with minors as a result of alleged incidents that started in the summer and came to light several weeks ago.

- It’s official now. Sunday sales of alcohol in package form are legal in Baldwin City. The no votes won by a margin of 19 in last Thursday’s election.
Douglas County Commissioners canvassed the vote Tuesday morning. There were four provisional ballots and three were allowed. Those three votes were two no and one yes, which brought the final numbers to 200 no and 181 yes.

- There was a key word with the top news stories of 2005 in Baldwin City — diversity.
Whether it was good news, bad news or a combination of both, every angle of the community — Baldwin City Council, Baldwin School District, Baker University, police, fire, etc. — had its highs and lows, along with everyone else. It made for an impossible task to choose the standard Top 10 stories of the year.
So, instead, the Signal looks back at the year remembering the most significant stories of the year, not necessarily by importance. Also in a break from tradition, some of the top stories will be listed in groupings rather than stand alone items.
