- After the new School Resource Officer was introduced Monday night, the Baldwin Board of Education discussed several items, but most were tabled until later meetings.
Baldwin City Police Officer Kim Judy was introduced to the school board as the new SRO. Judy will replace Sgt. Greg Schiffelbein, who was promoted in early November after serving as an officer in the department which included his SRO duties.

- EUDORA — In the midst of a wild week of basketball and weather, the Baldwin High School boys’ basketball team found a way to place third at the Cardinal Invitational here Saturday.

- PAOLA — Despite not practicing all of last week, the Baldwin High School girls’ basketball teams were able to come away from the Panther Invitational with a second-place finish here Friday night.
The Bulldogs (3-1) finished the tournament with a 64-43 loss to Paola in the championship game.

- After many sweaty practices and careful weight watching the Baldwin High School varsity wrestling team’s hard work paid off last weekend as they earned their highest finish ever in the Tournament of Champions.

- There will be another first in Baldwin City’s first-ever December election. Douglas County Clerk Jamie Shew has made the arrangements and a vote counting machine will be in Baldwin to determine the outcome of the Dec. 22 vote.

- With eight inches of snow on the ground and temperatures in the single digits, Baldwin School District children enjoyed snow days on Thursday and Friday.
On Wednesday night, Baldwin made the announcement that all schools would be closed on Thursday, due to the large amount of snowfall that had accumulated and was still coming down.
“We had about seven or eight inches of snow and the maintainers hadn’t been through yet,” Supt. James White said.

- Baker University will honor more than 700 undergraduate, graduate and nursing students with three separate ceremonies during winter commencement this weekend at the Collins Center.
