Weather shuts down classes in Baldwin again

December 9, 2005

Snow and cold combined to cancel school throughout the Baldwin school district Thursday and again on Friday. Between 6 and 8 inches of snow overnight Wednesday created hazardous driving conditions and freezing temperatures didn't help.

City crews had cleared most of the snow from Baldwin's streets by Thursday morning, but country roads will need more work throughout the day. Brutal cold with temperatures well below zero and wind chills even worse factored into the decision on Friday.

The Baldwin High School boys' basketball game at the Cardinal Tournament Thursday was postponed to a later date. The Bulldogs were scheduled to play Bishop Ward in the third-place game. The tournament may play its final games Saturday or next week. The BHS girls were to play tonight in the Paola tournament, but it's unknown Friday morning what the status of that game is. Check the Signal Web site for updates on the games.
