Letter to the Editor
To the editor:
I want to thank the Baldwin community for its expressions of care and compassion on the passing of Ethel May Carlson on October 13, 2005.
The numerous letters of sorrow, thoughtful acts of kindness and offers of help are gratefully received by Archer Carlson, husband, and her four children, Linda South, Roger Carlson, Cathy Henley and David Carlson.
Ethel May's many years of community service included: Girl Scout leader, North Baldwin Precinct supervisory judge, Baldwin High School alumni secretary, Past President (six times) of the Auxiliary Unit of Lloyd Beaton Post 228 American Legion. The Auxiliary made pies for the Maple Leaf Festival, for the Veterans Hospital they made many valentines, organized Christmas gifts, personal care items, clothing, books and comfort items. They sent care packages to service men and women overseas in Iraq and other areas. They sent high school girls to Kansas Girls State.
She will always be remembered for her patriotic support of our country's flag, her thoughtful acts of kindness, cheerful laugh and engaging smile. Her absence will create a void in our community that will be difficult to fill. She is sorely missed by her family and friends.
