Smooth start for schools

After a week of classes, the schools in the Baldwin School District have been adjusting to new books, new teachers and various minor details that always come at the beginning of each school year.

Baldwin School District’s $9 million-plus budget has been set for 2005-2006 and the school board will conduct a public hearing on the budget in a special session at 7 p.m. Monday at the district office.

Friday night art walk disrupted by storm

Friday’s storm was basically one big whoosh of wind, but it certainly sent people scattering … and the Johnson’s barn east of town, too. It started as an artful evening, the Baldwin Community Arts Council’s monthly Art Walk in downtown Baldwin, but quickly moved to more dodger as the crowd ducked for cover shortly before 9 p.m. That’s when the gust of wind, followed by torrential rain came.
