Theft occurs at Heritage yet again
Heritage Tractor was a victim yet again when a lawnmower was stolen from the John Deere dealership over the weekend.
Baldwin Police Chief Mike McKenna said a man took a used John Deere 425 AWS lawnmower, valued at $6,500, from Heritage Tractor, 915 Industrial Park Road, between 7:30 and 7:45 p.m. Saturday.
The identity of the man is not known, he said, but the incident was videotaped by the dealership's security system.
McKenna said the man, described as an older man with white hair, wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans, parked on the northeast side of the property to avoid being seen by passing traffic on U.S. Highway 56.
He said the man walked around the building and took the lawnmower located on the southeast corner of the building near the entrance.
"The man worked very diligently for a good 15 minutes on the tractors as he attempted to move the other tractors out of his way so he could get to this particular tractor and take it," he said.
McKenna said the man, who worked alone, had a key and was able to start the tractor, load it up and leave with it.
He said police are currently reviewing the tape from the security system.
"If anybody was passing by the John Deere dealership during the hours of 7 to 8:15 Saturday night, we would appreciate them contacting us with any information or any observations they made at that time," he said.
The Baldwin City Police Department can be contacted by calling 594-3850.
