From Signal Staff Reports

A blur of purple sped through the finish line as the Baldwin HIgh School boys varsity cross country team easily claimed its second victory of the season at the Wamego Invitational Saturday.

The Bulldogs finished with all seven runners in the top 25 out of 123. Leading the team was junior Keith Cowart, who ran a time of 17:03 for a third-place finish. Close behind him was senior Sam Hinton, placing eighth with a time of 17:16. Seniors Brian Gerstner and Zac Towns came in 17th and 18th with times at 17:46. Sophomore Chris Elniff placed 19th, clocking in at 17:47, and junior Grant Catloth finished at 17:51, good enough for a 22nd-place finish. Junior Spencer Wilson placed 24th with a time of 17:57.

"It was fun," said Cowart of his third-place finish. "I wish I would have felt a little bit better though."

Junior Grant Catloth was equally pleased with the meet.

"There was more competition, which was better for the team," Catloth said.

The Bulldog's next meet will be held Saturday at the Rim Rock cross country course in Lawrence, where they hope to continue in their winning ways.
