Garcia leads BHS girl runners to first

The Baldwin High School girls cross country team dominated the Anderson County meet last Thursday. The Bulldogs placed five runners in the top 10.

Baldwin won the meet with a low score of 26 points, while Eudora was second with 59 and Wellsville placed third with 84.

Freshman Heather Garcia placed first with a time of 12:06. Sophomore Kelsey Verhaeghe placed third with a time of 12:23, junior Amy Craig took fourth with a time of 13:02, freshman Madison Shoemaker placed ninth with a time of 13:31, sophomore Amanda Vander Tuig took 10th with a time of 13:37, senior Missy Westgate placed 15th with a time of 14:05 and junior Denise Orloff placed 32nd with a time of 14:38.

"The team did very well," said Westgate. "I hope we can all better our times for next week."

The freshmen were excited about how well the team did.

"We competed very well together as a team. We competed very well for our first meet," said Shoemaker.

The Bulldogs will run next at Wamego on Saturday.
