BHS doubles team goes to state
The tennis season came to a close Saturday at the Class 4A state tennis tournament.
The tournament took place at Emporia High School, with Baldwin High School acting as hosts. Baldwin was represented by the doubles team of Kyleigh Garman and Kristen Ferris, fresh off of their fourth place finish at regionals that helped boost the team to fifth place. Though Garman and Ferris lost both of their matches at state, it was hardly a disappointment.
"I was so happy to make it to state with Kyleigh," Ferris said. "I'm so glad she got to have this experience her senior year and I'm very proud for being ranked No. 13 in the state of Kansas. I'm really glad me and Kyleigh had the outcome that we had."
The other doubles team of Katie Beall and Lindsey Hitchcock went 1-1 at regionals, and finished the season 8-6. On the singles front, Andrea Hamilton finished the year 9-16, and Maddie Conduff finished 10-14.
The season overall was a success, according to coach Ginny Honomichl.
"This season has been quite different from those in the recent past," Honomichl said. "We have used a variety of lineups at both the varsity and junior varsity levels in tournament competition. The benefit has been the discovery of young talent, the future of our program. This season has been one that had pretty good weather for which we are thankful."
