BHS boys run to another title
When the gun fired, so did the pistons in the Baldwin High School Bulldogs' legs. The varsity boys didn't flinch an inch during the Sabetha Invitational, finishing with a near-perfect score of 18 points.
Junior Keith Cowart led the cross country team, placing first with a time of 17:19. As it has been all season, senior Sam Hinton followed close behind in second place with a time of 17:23. Senior Zac Towns reeled in his teammates, finishing fourth with a time of 17:42. The fourth Bulldog to finish was junior Grant Catloth. His race proved fifth overall, wrapping up at 17:44. The last scored runner was sophomore Chris Elniff. He ran a time of 17:54, placing sixth. Senior Brian Gerstner and sophomore Dustin Schiller finished seventh and eighth. They ended the purple glow with times at 18:12 and 18:19. The time difference between the first Baldwin runner and the seventh was only one minute.
"I'm very happy with the way we ran," coach Mike Spielman said. "Any time you get seven out of the top eight, it's a good day."
Baldwin's next race is the Frontier League Championship today at the Rim Rock Farm cross country course, located north of Lawrence.
