May 27, 2004

Baker University head mens basketball coach Rick Weaver announced that David Ward, a record-setting guard at Paola High School and letter winner at Johnson County Community College, has signed with the Wildcats.

Ward was a standout at Paola and set the records for points in a career and points in a game. As a senior, he averaged 25 points per game, was named second-team All-Metro by the Kansas City Star, and was All-Kansas in basketball and football. He was named All-Frontier League for three seasons.

"David was one of the top high school athletes in the area two years ago and we're excited that he's joining our program," Weaver said. "He can shoot the ball and he'll be a solid offensive threat."

Ward is a business major. He is the son of Larry and Janet Ward.
