BHS 7-on-7 team

wins second straight

From Signal Staff Reports

The Baldwin High School entry in the 7-on-7 football league beat DeSoto twice Monday night to claim both the league and tournament titles for the second year in a row.

First, BHS downed DeSoto 24-14 for the league crown. The Bulldogs followed that with a 14-0 win to claim the tournament title.

"We played very well defensively," said coach Mike Berg. "We broke up a lot of passes. We covered the short stuff well and the long stuff, too. We emphasized not getting beat on the long ball."

In the final game, Klay Garrison scored the first touchdown and tacked on the two-point conversion. Aaron Hannon caught the second score.

"Aaron Hannon played awesome on offense," said Berg. "He caught everything."

The victories left BHS with a 7-1 record for the summer all-pass league.

"I was just very proud of how we played," he said. "We had two of our returning starters who didn't play at all this year because of injury and sickness. We had young kids who haven't played any varsity ball step up and play like varsity players."

Signal, Knoll seeking

baseball, softball reports

From Signal Staff Reports

As with every summer, the Baldwin City Signal will be publishing information received about summer sports.

This year, there will be a "coordinator" of that information, Baldwin High School senior-to-be Ben Knoll. As Knoll's senior class project, he will be doing his mentoring program through Signal editor/publisher Jeff Myrick.

Knoll will be doing various stories throughout the summer. It is hoped that arrangements with the Baldwin City Recreation Commission will be able to provide most of the details. But, coaches are encouraged to contact Knoll as well.

Knoll can be reached on his cell phone at 785-331-9418 and his home phone is 594-3609.

As in the past, coaches can send information to the Signal by FAX at 785-594-7084 or by e-mail to
