EVELYN RUTH BREITHAUPT

Funeral services for Evelyn Ruth Breithaupt, 88, Lawrence, were Friday at the First Church of the Nazarene, Lawrence. Mrs. Breithaupt died Jan. 26, 2004, at her home.

She was born Jan. 19, 1916, at Lawrence, the daughter of Oscar and Ursula Barthel Nuffer. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Lawrence, the Worden Jolly Stitchers, Sigel Ladies Aid and the Christian Women's Club, Lawrence.

She married Donald C. Breithaupt May 6 , 1936, at Worden. He died Sept. 7, 2002.

Survivors include two daughters, Sylvia Haas, Laguna Niguel, Calif., and Nancy Breithaupt, Lawrence; four sons, Glenn, Douglas, Kenny and Jeri, all of Lawrence; two brothers, Harold Nuffer, Plymouth, Calif., and Warren Nuffer, Phoenix, Ariz.; three sisters, Dorothy McGregor, Lawrence, Shirley Frazier, Haviland, and Grace Wheeler, Hugoton; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Burial was at Worden Cemetery, Worden. Memorials may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene or Hospice Care of Douglas County and sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.

WILLIAM DALE BARKLEY

Funeral services for William Dale "Bill" Barkley, 48, Overbrook, were Friday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Mr. Barkley died Jan. 27, 2004, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born Feb. 16, 1955, at Riverside, Calif., the son of Robert and Josephine (Maxwell) Barkley. He was raised in the Centropolis area. He graduated from Pomona High School in 1973. He was employed as facilities operations/construction supervisor for Kansas University, Lawrence, the past 18 years.

He married Joyce B. Rich Aug. 30, 1974, at Baldwin City. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his parents, three daughters, Crystal Dawn Barkley, Lawrence, Elizabeth Marie Crump, Pomona, Jody Lynn Barkley, of the home; a son, William Cody Barkley, of the home; four sisters, Wanda Andrews, Pomona, Sheryl Baugher, Ottawa, Jo Ellen Waltman, Baldwin City, Lea Ann Collins, Jasper, Ark.; two brothers, David Barkley, Baldwin City, Don Barkley, Wellsville; one grandson.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Barkley in 1992.

DELBERT E. FLORY

Funeral services for Delbert E. Flory, 63, Baldwin City, were Saturday at Willow Springs Old German Baptist Brethren Church. Mr. Flory died Jan. 28, 2004, at his home in rural Baldwin City.

He was born Oct. 3, 1940, at Lawrence, the son of John William and Vida Irene (Gish) Flory. He lived in Lawrence for 10 years, then moved to the Willow Springs community where he farmed all his life, with his father and then with his son.

He married Freda Irene Flora. She died Oct. 22, 1961. He married Eileen Filbrun May 26, 1963, near Dayton, Ohio. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his mother, Vida I. Flory, rural Baldwin City; a son, Wesley Flory, rural Baldwin City; a daughter, Janece Holsinger, Ohio, and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and a daughter, Terri Landes, Dec. 16, 1988.

Burial was at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Pleasant Grove. Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of Douglas County and sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, PO Box 1260, Lawrence, KS 66044

HELEN CHRISTINE RICE

Graveside services for Helen Christine Rice, 98, Lawrence, will be today at 11 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lawrence. Mrs. Rice died Jan. 31, 2004, at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.

She was born April 24, 1905, at Lawrence, the daughter of Frank H. and Caroline A. (Mathis) Jahns. She attended Bismark Rural Grade School in Douglas County. She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in1924. She attended Emporia State University. She taught at Douglas County Rural Grade School and later worked as a house manager for Gertrude Sellards Pearson Residence Hall at Kansas University for 10 years.

She married William M. Rice on June 3, 1925, at Lawrence. He died May 28, 1963. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Lawrence.

Survivors include two sons, Bill Rice, Baldwin City, and James Rice, Garland, Texas; one sister, Marguerite Parnell, Lawrence; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
