Baldwin’s Brown tabbed as top Big 12 freshman
Although she's yet to step on the court for the University of Kansas volleyball team, Baldwin's Emily Brown already has an honor under her belt.
Big 12 Conference coaches have chosen Brown, along with Nebraska's Sara Paven, as preseason co-freshmen of the year. Brown, who graduated from Baldwin High School in the spring, won numerous honors as a Bulldog and was one of the most highly sought players in the country.
It wasn't the only top addition that Big 12 coaches see at KU. Paula Caten, a transfer from Barton County Community College, was voted as preseason newcomer of the year. KU junior Josi Lima was also a preseason all-conference selection.
Despite those choices, the Big 12 coaches only picked the Jayhawks to finish seventh in the conference. Last year, KU tied for third in the Big 12 and made its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
