Cancer survivor to walk first lap in Relay

Junior Hargett will be walking at Relay for Life next week for the first time ever. He’ll be participating not just for himself, but for other people as well. “I just thought I would after what I’ve been through,” Hargett said. “I just want to get in it and walk one time. I want to help somebody else.” Hargett will be participating in the survivor’s lap at Baldwin’s Relay for Life, which begins at 7 p.m. April 30 at Liston Stadium.
Opinions vary over revitalization proposal
Owners, community members discuss downtown improvements at informational meeting

The informational community meeting was supposed to determine whether there was support for a downtown revitalization plan, which it seemed to accomplish. Of the 35 to 40 downtown business and property owners and community members in attendance at Tuesday’s meeting, it was apparent there was some support — as well as opposition — for the idea.
BCAC to host Garden Party A-Fair

There’s a unique event set for Sunday, combining art, entertainment and other items which is being sponsored by the Baldwin Community Arts Council. The Garden Party A-fair is set for 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Three Sisters Inn, 1035 Ames. Local and surrounding area artists will exhibit under the awnings, craftsmen will demonstrate their talents, live musical entertainment will be playing and there will even be massages available.
Signal gains KPA awards

The Baldwin City Signal’s staff won 22 awards, including two first place showings, at Saturday’s annual Kansas Press Association Awards of Excellence. This year’s KPA convention was in Overland Park.
BHS tennis takes second
April 22, 2004
The Baldwin High School tennis team continued its season on April 13 at the Bonner Springs Tournament. Other teams competing were Paola, Blue Valley, Gardner-Edgerton, Bonner Springs, Leavenworth, Immaculata, and Mill Valley. In the No. 1 singles position, junior Chris Irick finished in second place with a record of 2-1 losing to Blue Valley 3-8 in the finals after winning his first two matches 8-0 and 8-4.
Bulldog softball splits with Gardner

The Baldwin High School softball squad traveled to Gardner Thursday to face the Gardner-Edgerton Trailblazers. The Bulldogs ended the night by splitting the doubleheader.
BHS baseball splits with Eudora
April 22, 2004
The Baldwin High School baseball team took on action at Eudora last week, entering to a still young season. The team split two games with Eudora, winning 8-7 and losing 8-7. Senior Grant Meisenheimer pitched five innings and only allowed four runs. He also struck out four batters.
BHS boys compete in relays

It was a week of relays for the Baldwin High School boys track team last week. There were the Baker Relays on Tuesday and the highly known Kansas Relays on Friday. Early in the week, the Bulldogs shined at the Baker Relays.
Bulldog girls have good relays
April 22, 2004
Baldwin High School competed April 13 in the Baker Relays and Saturday in the Kansas Relays. At KU, seven girls represented BHS in seven different events and captured four bronze medals in the most competitive meet of the season. The meet turned out to be a huge success for BHS.
