AAUW set to meet
Thursday at Baker
The first meeting of the academic year for the Baldwin Branch of the American Association of University Women is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the Baker University Library.
Jan Boyd will present the program on "Birding in Britain." Boyd and her husband, Roger Boyd, recently spent a semester in England with a group of students from Baker University.
Refreshments will be served by Janet McManus. Any woman, who is a graduate of a four-year college, is invited to attend the meeting and consider AAUW membership.
RWD No. 4
to meet Tuesday
Rural Water District No. 4, Douglas County, will have its regular meeting beginning at 7 p.m., Tuesday, in the conference room of the district office.
Ives hosts annual
The Annual Salad Supper, sponsored by the Ives Chapel United Methodist Women, will be at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 9 in Fellowship Hall. All Baldwin community church women's groups, Trailside Parish Units and various area units are invited.
Evening Circle to
The Evening Circle of the Ives Chapel United Methodist Women will meet at 7:15 p.m. Sept. 10 in Fellowship Hall. Amy Wright will be hostess and lead the program and devotions.
The Clearfield -Ives Chapel United Methodist Youth Ministry will meet at 7 p.m. on Wed., Sept. 10 at Clearfield UM Church. Youth sixth through 12th grade are invited.
Jim Hoy to speak on
Corps of Discovery
Noted speaker on the westward movement and cowboy humor, Dr. Jim Hoy, will give a presentation on the Corps of Discovery -- Lewis and Clark's Journey. Friends of the Library will sponsor this special event on Thurs., Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Baldwin library community room.
Strickland returns to
Steve Strickland, songwriter and singer, will appear at Espress Yourself Friday at 7 p.m. The performance is free and open to the public.
Strickland accompanies himself on the guitar and harmonica. He is preparing to record a new CD. He will play a mixture of his own songs and an assortment of music by other artists.
Friends of Library
sponsor mum sale
The annual mum sale, sponsored by the Friends of the Baldwin City Library, will be Friday, Sept. 19, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 20, 8 a.m. to noon, on the lawn in front of the library. Any one who could volunteer to help with the sale can sign up at the library.
Midland Grief Counseling Center will offer grief support counseling on the first and third Thursday of every month (except holidays) from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Midland office, 635 S. Workshop to be given
to access census info
Collins Library will host a Census 2000 workshop at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 23, in instruction room 115. Matthew Milbrodt of the Census Bureau Information Services will teach how to access 1990 and 2000 Decennial Census data using the Census Bureau's American Factfinder website.
