- Penny Higgins really gets into decorating for fall.
Higgins not only decorates practically every inch of the inside of her home at 402 Fremont St. with fall-themed knick-knacks and decorations, but the outside is adorned with mums, cornstalks, pumpkins and other seasonal items.

- A 22-year-old Baldwin High School graduate was injured Sunday in a one-car accident on Interstate 29.
Rebecca Demarest, who graduated from BHS in 1999 and is currently a student at Kansas University, was southbound on I-29 at the Whiting overpass when her car went off the road, striking a guardrail.

- It’s that time of year when lawns and yards start disappearing under carpets of fallen leaves. Bruce Chladny said there are several ways people can choose in deciding how to take care of the leaves, but there is something that shouldn’t be done.
“What they should do is not panic,” he said.
Chladny, Douglas County horticulture extension agent, said many options are available for people wanting to rid their yards of brown, crunchy leaves, and some are better than others.

- The Baldwin High School volleyball team continued doing what it does best, destroying the competition. The Bulldogs traveled to Spring Hill Saturday to take part in what turned out to be a monstrous event, where the Bulldogs not only won, but did so in convincing fashion in earning their second straight trip to the state championships.

- The challenged book is going back to a review committee.
The Baldwin Board of Education decided at Monday’s recessed meeting to re-form a committee to review the challenged book “We All Fall Down,” despite not having a new challenged materials policy in place.

- The Baldwin High School boys cross country team is rocketing full speed into the state meet after winning a regional title Saturday at Tonganoxie. The boys finished with a respectable 23 points to second place DeSoto’s 73 points.
