Ives Chapel seeking

nativity scenes

Ives Chapel is planning the annual nativity scene display on Dec. 7. Those who would like to share their nativity scenes should contact Gail Guenther at 594-3590.

ESU announces

scholarship winners

Emporia State University awarded scholarships to 1,735 students for the 2003-2004 academic year. Area students receiving scholarships are: Baldwin City: Trisha Gresnick, Jamie Grosdidier, Andrea Irick, Natalie Moreau and Tillie Wood; Overbrook: Jodi Bachelor, Ryan Hulings, Aaron Lang and Dawn Shuck; Wellsville: Brad Bloss, Sarah Eatinger, Brian Hughes, Danielle Patton and Amanda Pearce; Eudora: Aimee Barber, Corey Green, Melissa Moreno and Sandy Taylor.

Wellsville to have

lighting ceremony

Wellsville will have its lighting ceremony on Dec. 1 at Fifth and Main streets. Ornaments can be brought to be placed on the tree. Donations of non-perishable food items will be collected. Hot chocolate will be available. On Dec. 6, there will be a craft show and sale at Wellsville High School gym from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The annual Junior and Luetta Crist Christmas drawing will begin at 6 p.m. in the red gym.

Hestia Club members

have meeting

Hestia Study Club members met at Baldwin Elementary School Intermediate Center. Pam Colson, Carolyn Groves and Loretta Robson conducted a tour of the new school. The meeting was held at the home of Mary Swan with Judy Wagner as co-hostess. Roll call was answered by "How I stay educated." Reports were given and old business and new business were presented.

AAUW to feature

economics professors

"Women's Financial Issues" is the program topic for the Baldwin Branch of the American Association of University Women's December meeting.

The event, which is open to the public, will begin at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at the Baldwin Public Library.

Two Baker University professors in the business and economics department, Judy Smrha and Paul Russell, will present the program.

Betty Barker Bashaw and Peggy Harris are in charge of refreshments at 4:30 p.m., with the program to follow at 5 p.m.

Vinland Fair Board

elects officers

The Vinland Fair Association has recently added two new board positions and elected officers for the 2004 year.

Ron and Linda Griffin and Daryl and Margaret Barnes were elected to the two newly created board positions, raising the board membership to eleven positions.

At the same meeting in October, three couples were re-elected to the board. They are Larry and Eloise Craig, Mark and Sherry Brown and Mary and Bill Gensler.

The current officers re-elected for the 2004 year are: President, Mike and Julie Craig; Vice President, Allen and Karla Osborn; secretary, Jean Moore; treasurer, Bill and Mary Gensler

The board also scheduled the annual Whole-Hog Sausage and Pancake Benefit Supper for March 20, 2004, in the Exhibition Building.

The board members have begun tentative planning for the Vinland Fair's centennial in 2007. Any community member interested in working with the board on centennial plans is urged to contact a board member.
