Baldwin prepares for holidays with retail open house

November 19, 2003

Several Baldwin businesses are preparing for the holiday season with this weekend's annual Holiday Open House.

Seven businesses will have their doors open for the special city-wide retail open house, which runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Vintage Flea Antiques, Cranberry Market, C. Designs, Espress Yourself, Discoveries Gifts, Solomon's Antiques and Quilters' Paradise will be celebrating the holiday season with specials and sales, food and drink, and holiday decorations.

"To me, this sets off our holiday season," Christy Carlisle of C. Designs said. "We're trying to fill the sights and sounds of the holidays."

Carlisle said a number of people come from Lawrence, Kansas City and the surrounding area for the open house, and she encouraged Baldwin residents to attend as well.

"There is a broad mix of stores. Each store is unique," she said. "Everybody ought to be able to find something they like."

Not only will people be able to find a number of holiday items to purchase, like decorated Christmas trees, ornaments and other home decor objects, Carlisle said, other unique things to buy will be available from the businesses.

"There will be anything they would want for a gift or for their own homes," she said. "We will offer a wide variety of essentials."

She said the open house should provide a festive start to the holiday season.

"It's just going to be a really great atmosphere," she said. "I'm really looking forward to it."
