Four women recently saw Baldwin and the surrounding area in a little different fashion than most people stopping for a visit — on foot. The women from New Mexico and Colorado specifically made the trip to Baldwin last week to hike the Santa Fe Trail.

Baldwin businesses won’t be the only ones featured in this weekend’s Holiday Open House. The Baldwin Community Arts Council will have its second annual holiday art sale from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday in the former lumberyard, 718 High St.
Baldwin prepares for holidays with retail open house

Several Baldwin businesses are preparing for the holiday season with this weekend’s annual Holiday Open House. Seven businesses will have their doors open for the special city-wide retail open house, which runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

BHS performs well-known Rodgers, Hammerstein musical

Baldwin High School is heading to the South Pacific this weekend. BHS students will be performing the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical “South Pacific” at the Baldwin Junior High School auditorium. Show times are at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. The musical is set in the Solomon Islands during World War II as the U.S. Navy prepares to invade the Central Pacific. The story focuses on one island and the relationships between the sailors, nurses and islanders as the threat of battle increases.

On Saturday, Baker University fell 28-27 in overtime to arch-rival William Jewell after leading 21-7 going into the fourth quarter. On Monday, after eight years at the helm, BU head football coach John Frangoulis resigned.

It was a heck of a ride, but the longest run in 15 years for Baldwin High School football ended here Friday night with a 20-7 Class 4A sectional playoff loss to the Fort Scott Tigers.
