City-wide garage sale to be fundraiser for public library
It's a dream come true for garage sale fanatics.
June 7 marks the 16th annual city-wide garage sale sponsored by the Friends of the Baldwin City Public Library.
The city-wide garage sale, which last year featured around 75 different sales and attracted people from several communities, will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The sale is the largest fundraiser for the Friends of the Baldwin City Public Library, Susan Baker, Friends past president, said. The organization then donates the money it raises to the Baldwin library.
"Last year, we were able to donate $5,000 to the library for whatever they needed," Baker said.
It's not too late, she said, for people to register their sales with the Friends. Registration is $5 and the forms are available at the library, 800 Seventh St., or the Baldwin City Market, 112 N. Eighth St. The forms need to be turned into the library by Saturday with the registration fee.
Those who pay the registration fee, Baker said, will have their sales listed in the directory, get sale signs for their yards and get a free sale directory the night before the event. They can pick up their signs and directories at the library from 4 to 7 p.m. June 6.
Directories listing all of the registered sales will be available for $1 the day of the sale at the library beginning at 8 a.m. A map of Baldwin can also be found in the directories. Friends of the Library members can get their directories the night before.
Baker said there are a variety of items available at the sales.
"There will be house plants, fishing poles, cars," she said. "Big items, like the furniture, will go right away."
She hoped those with items to sell, would register their sales with the Friends of the Library.
"We encourage people to register to support the library," she said. "It is a fundraiser for the library, so we encourage people to take the extra effort to register."
