Council chooses color for town’s new water towers

Baldwin’s two new water towers won’t be fancy. In fact, the only thing decorating the towers will be the words Baldwin City. The Baldwin City Council decided at Monday night’s meeting in a 4-1 vote to paint the water towers bare beige and have only Baldwin City painted on them. Council Member Ken Wagner voted against the motion.
BHS JV softball ends season by sweeping two

The Baldwin High School junior varsity girls softball team took two games away from Osawatomie at the Baldwin fields last Tuesday to finish up the season with a record of 6-10.
Bulldog junior varsity baseball drops a pair

The Baldwin High School junior varsity boys baseball team dropped two games against Eudora’s JV baseball team Thursday night at Eudora. The Bulldogs lost 12-7 in the first game and lost 7-0 in the second game.
BHS baseball season comes to an end

The season came to an end abruptly for the Baldwin High School baseball team Monday night in Class 4A Regional play at Ottawa.
Bulldog softball wins first-round game

Baldwin High School’s softball team passed the first hurdle for a trip to state by pounding Burlington 13-1 Monday in the first round of the Osawatomie based Class 4A Regional Tournament.
Bulldog boys come in seventh

The Frontier League showed its strength Thursday at the league track meet. That was unfortunate for the Baldwin High School boys track team. The Bulldogs placed seventh in the highly competitive field. Gardner-Edgerton dominated the meet, scoring 167 points to second place Anderson County’s 61. The Bulldogs came away 35 points.
BU has commencement ceremonies

BHS graduates class of 93 seniors

Ninety-three seniors have officially left Baldwin High School behind. The 2003 commencement ceremony took place Saturday in the Baldwin Junior High School auditorium, acknowledging BHS’s 116th graduating class. Now class rooms at BHS are lacking the senior population, leaving some to comment on the emptiness of the hallways and classrooms. The commencement program included performances by the BHS band, BHS concert choir, and a speech and piano solo by BHS alum Seth Osburn, who graduated in 1986.
BHS girls take league crown

You could say the Baldwin High School girls track team tamed the Frontier. Certainly the Bulldogs blazed new trails as they set two new meet records at the Frontier League Meet on Thursday. BHS took first in the 10-team field, beating second-place Osawatomie by a sizable margin of 116 to 94.

BES receives honors; makes improvements

Baldwin Elementary School students have made noticeable improvement over the last couple of years. In fact, the students’ progress was so great, BES will no longer be listed as a Title I school in need of improvement.
