Maple Leaf Quilt Guild
The Maple Leaf Quilt Guild will meet Thursday at the Senior Center, Baldwin City. Enola Gish will present the program. Hostesses will be Connie Taylor and Terri Saunders. Visitors are welcome.
Kathy Johnston and Becky McMillen of Baldwin City Public Library recently attended the Summer Reading Workshop presented by the Northeast Kansas Library System at Topeka Shawnee County Public Library. "Laugh It Up @ Your Library!" will be the theme of this year's summer program throughout the state of Kansas. The Kansas State Library and the Northeast Kansas Library System provide many of the materials used by local libraries to maintain their reading program. Each year nearly 82,000 Kansas children participate in a local library summer reading program.
Former Baldwin City resident Brynn Calen Paine has received a Homeschool Leader Scholarship at Cedarville University (Ohio). Cedarville University awards Homeschool Leader Scholarships to first-year students who have graduated from a home education-based curriculum with a minimum of two years in home education. They must have high ACT/SAT scores, a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 or higher, and leadership positions in church and community. She is the daughter of Larry and Susan Paine, former Baldwin City residents. She plans to major in technical and professional communication.

The Lawrence Chamber Orchestra will present its final concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 13 at the Lawrence Free State High School auditorium. Guest conductor will be Zuohuang Cheng.
The Roger Hill Volunteer Center is seeking youth applicants to participate in the Prudential Youth Leadership Institute to be offered in Lawrence May 27-31. The training will provide high school students with a unique combination of leadership and community service skills that can prepare them for active roles in improving the quality of life in their community. ECKAN to recertify
Clients during April
ECKAN clients may apply for recertification beginning April 1 at the Douglas County ECKAN center, 1600 Haskell, No. 197, Lawrence. Recertification is necessary for clients to receive services. Proof of all income for each individual in the household for the last 12 months, proof of residency and social security numbers for all members of the household, including children, are necessary and must be presented at the time of recertification. Baker art show
"Trees and Other Symbols," an art show featuring paintings by
Andrew Driscoll, will be on display in Baker University's Holt/Russell Gallery in Parmenter Hall through April 17.
Driscoll is Baker University's visiting assistant
professor of art.
Recent work by the Studio Art Faculty will be on display through April 17. The Holt/ Russell Gallery is open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays or by appointment at 594-4588.
HAPA to have
summer season auditions
Heart of America Performing Arts is anouncing the auditions for the Summer Season and both Troupes on April 5. Callbacks will be April 26 and will read from the selected scripts. Attached is a flier with more information. There is a wide age range of roles available, from fifth grade and older.
The youth roles will read from one of two scripts -- either Silent Movie or Women of the Wind.
Auditions will be from 9 a.m. to noon at Knox Presbyterian Church, 9595 W. 95th St., Overland Park and from 2 to 5 p.m. at Rice Auditorium at Baker University, Eighth and Dearborn streets.
