Theft occurs at Heritage Tractor

March 19, 2003

More than $21,000 worth of machinery and equipment was stolen from Heritage Tractor last week.

Baldwin City Police Chief Mike McKenna said a trailer and two riding lawn mowers were stolen from the John Deere dealership, located at 915 Industrial Road, sometime between 10:30 p.m. last Wednesday night and 7 a.m. the following morning.

He said an unknown number of people attached a 16-foot-long black, double axle trailer belonging to Heritage Tractor to the back of a vehicle, and backed it to the rear of the building, where they loaded two 60-inch deck riding lawn mowers onto the trailer with a hand winch.

One of the mowers was a new John Deere 757 Z-Trak. The second mower was a used Lazer Z Ex-Mark, red with a gray seat.

Area law enforcement agencies have been notified, and McKenna said anyone who might have seen the trailer or anyone with any information can call the Baldwin City Police Department at 594-3850.
