Baker women fall to Evangel in playoffs
The Baker University women came close Monday night in the Heart of America Athletic Conference post-season tournament. But, the fifth-seeded Wildcats fell 59-50 to Evangel.
Evangel opened with a 34-26 halftime lead, then held off the Wildcats 25-24 in the second half. Evangel was boosted by 40 percent shooting from the 3-point stripe, hitting four treys to just one for BU. Total shooting found Evangel with a 47 percent to 35 percent edge.
Evangle also had an advantage on the boards, hauling down 32 rebounds to 28 for Baker. The Wildcats had one fewer turnover, however, 21-20. Free throw shooting helped keep Baker in the game as the Wildcats hit 19 of 25 for 76 percent, compared to Evangel's nine of 12 for 75 percent.
Erin Robinson topped the Baker scoring with 14 points and Gayla Brown added 11. The pair also had six rebounds apiece to lead that catagory. Amber Burkland had BU's lone 3-pointer and had seven points for the game.
Baker had earned the right to square off against No. 2-seed Evangel by downing No. 1-seed William Jewell 75-66 on Friday.
