Track club shines

The Baldwin Track Club brought home numerous first-place finishes and even a couple of state records from two recent track meets.

There were 12 first-place finishes and two state records at the AAU Kansas State Meet in Manhattan. Setting the records were Carson Barnes with a 15-1 long jump in the bantam division and Maurissa Shaffer with a 2:29.07 time in the 800-meter run midget division.

First-place finishers were: Irone Revly, 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes, midget division; Barnes, 400 and 800, and long jump, bantam; Shaffer, 400 and 800, midget; Monica Howard, 1,500-meter run and high jump, sub-bantam; and Allison Howard, discus and shot put, sub-midget.

Other finishes at the AAU meet, where the top four qualified for the Missouri Valley Association meet in Platte City, Mo., were: Cole Meyer, shot put, third, 800, fourth, primary; Kaitlyn Barnes, 200 and long jump, fourth, and 400, second, sub-bantam; Jesse McCoy, 800, third, and long jump, fourth, sub-midget; Lauren Barnes, discus, third; and Monica Howard, 800, second, sub-bantam.

Finishing first at the USAT&F Kansas State Meet in Hays were Courtney Harris in the youth pole vault, Mason Johnson in the midget javelin and Jacob Runner in the youth 400.

Other finishers at the USAT&F meet, where the top eight qualify for the Missouri Valley Meet in Emporia, were: Elizabeth Sigvaldson, fifth place in bantam 100, 200 and long jump; Mackenzie Johnson, fifth in bantam shot put and javelin; Harris, seventh in youth 400; Katie Sigvaldson, fourth in youth 200-meter hurdles, sixth in javelin and seventh in discus; Kelsey Heckathorne, second in intermediate long jump, third in the 400 and fifth in the 800; Kelli Harris, third in the intermediate 100 and 400 hurdles and fifth in pole vault; Johnson, third in midget 100 and fourth in 200; Isaac Twombley, third in midget shot put and fifth in 200 and high jump; Runner, second in youth 200, fifth in shot put and sixth in 100; Chris Elniff, sixth in intermediate high jump and eighth in 1,500; and Paul Minor, third in intermediate 2,000-meter steeplechase and seventh in 3,000 and high jump.
