Softball team splits pair
The Baldwin 15-and-under girls softball team suffered its first loss of the season June 18 losing 12-6 to DeSoto 1, but bounced back Saturday with an 18-7 win over Wellsville.
"We jumped out in the first inning and got the lead, but then defensively made several errors and gave up some unearned runs throughout the game," said coach Steve Krysztof about the loss.
Shannon Hornberger was the starting pitcher and was handed the loss on the night. Offensively the Baldwin girls could only muster four singles on the night hit by Niki Eberhart, Sarah Eberhart, Colby Heckathorne and Kristen Ferris.
Against Wellsville, Baldwin had lots of hits with Heckathorne and Emily Krysztof getting doubles. Krysztof also had 3 singles, Jamie Voights and Hornberger had two singles each, while Megan Burton added one. Burton was the winning pitcher for the game sitting down nine Wellsville batters with strikeouts and allowing only four hits. Baldwin advanced to 5-1 on the season.
"Megan did a nice job pitching," said coach Steve Krysztof. "She always maintains a positive attitude, and I really have enjoyed watching her improvement this year."
