Skyhawks finish second in tourney
The Baldwin Skyhawks finished second in the Olathe Metro "Tune-up" over the weekend with a 3-2 record.
The Skyhawks won their first two games of the tournament. They beat The Edge 4-1 in the opener behind the pitching of Kasey Pittenger. Kayla Pringle, Kalie Harris, Kari Garrison and Angie Bacon had two hits apiece and Harris had two runs batted in.
In the second game, the Skyhawks pounded Northwest Medical 12-3. This time Kyla Lewis picked up the pitching victory and all nine batters had a hit. Megan Metzler had two hits and two RBI and Garrison had a pair of hits and an RBI.
The string ran out in the third game, however, as the Skyhawks were shutout 8-0. Pittenger took the loss as Baldwin went without a hit and only had three base runners.
The Skyhawks opened Sunday play with another win, this one 10-8 over Northwest Medical. Pittenger was the winning pitcher. Pringle had three hits and Bacon and Garrison each had a pair. Harris had two RBI.
That put the Skyhawks in the championship game against Olathe Xtreme. Baldwin fell 5-1 as Lewis took the loss on the mound. Pringle had a triple, Garrison a double and Haydon Hubbel a single, which were Baldwin's only three hits. The Skyhawks' run came on a sacrifice bunt by Bacon.
Next up for the Skyhawks will be Council Grove's "Pride in America Softball Tournament" Saturday and Sunday.
