June 11, 2003

The Baldwin 15-and-under girls softball team traveled to Gardner on May 28 to match up against Gardner 2.

The Baldwin girls won 22-6, led by pitcher Megan Burton who recorded six strikeouts. She was supported offensively by Emily Krysztof and Jamie Voights, who hit doubles. Hitting singles for the team were Ashley Tucker, Sarah Eberhart, Niki Eberhart and Voights. A week later the girls traveled back to Gardner and played Gardner 1 on June 4 in another night game under the lights. The Baldwin team again was victorious winning 15-0. Burton struck out five batters to help her team. Early in the game catcher Voights caught a short pop-fly then fired to first to double up the runner. Then later in the game catcher Krysztof gunned down a potential base stealer at second to assist the defensive effort.

Offensively for Baldwin, Emily James and Voights hit singles to score their teammates.

"We made some errors in our first game of the season and gave up several easy runs, but I was glad to see us hold our composure and finish that game with a 'W'," said coach Steve Krysztof. "The second game we played much better defensively and looked a lot more confident on the field."

On Monday, the team competed in its first home game of the season.

Burton struck out six batters on the night and with the help of her team kept the Eudora 1 opponent scoreless as they finished the game winning 15-0. Offensively, Sarah Eberhart, James and Brandi Nichols each had a single while Voights hit four singles. Burton and Krysztof each lined a double for the team. Annie Hannon crushed a triple to deep center field to complete the team's hitting and advance their season record to 3-0.
