Baldwin 7-8 All-Stars place second

Eleven boys representing the Baldwin recreation coach pitch teams traveled to Wellsville July 17-19 for the "Coach Pitch Showdown" 7-8-year-old all-star tournament.

Baldwin began pool play with a loss to the Lawrence's Douglas County Amateur Baseball Association 8-year-old all-stars 24-7. The Bulldogs bounced back to trounce Ottawa 22-0 in four innings and the Eudora 7-year-olds 24-0 in three innings.

Advancing out of pool play in second place, Baldwin faced the winner of the other pool, Wellsville. The Bulldogs handled the Indians easily, winning by a score of 23-7 in four innings.

The championship game pitted Baldwin against Lawrence. Again, Lawrence was just too much for the Baldwin boys. The final score after three innings was Lawrence 21, Baldwin 6.

A Home Run Derby was held during the "Coach Pitch Showdown."ach batter was given 10 "outs" with any hit not going over the fence considered an out. Wesley Leonard was the champion with nine home runs. Dayton Valentine won third place by hitting three home runs.
