The Baldwin skyline has a little different look to it. Two of the town’s water towers — one downtown and one north of Baldwin — were torn down last week as part of the city’s water tower project.

Bill Dempsey is no longer a Baldwin police officer. The Baldwin City Council accepted Dempsey’s resignation Monday night after meeting in executive session for 15 minutes.

Teacher dedicates 30 years to district

Jeanne Scott remembers her first year of teaching journalism in the Baldwin School District was made a lot easier with the help of a certain English teacher. Carolyn Groves was that high school teacher that helped make Scott’s year go smoothly. “It was my first teaching experience,” Scott said. “She was a mentor to me. She checked in on me and guided me.” She said Groves’ leadership and guidance was what made her such an asset to the Baldwin district in her 30 years as an English teacher and curriculum director.
Baldwin softball players bound for nationals

Baldwin City’s Courtney Johnson and Megan Burton are members of the Phenix-Hamilton 14-and-under fastpitch team from Lawrence. The team traveled to Springfield, Mo., the weekend of July11-13 to the American Softball Association 14-and-under B regionals where they competed against teams from Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Iowa to try and qualify for ASA nationals.

The Baldwin Bulldawgs 10 year-old boys’ select tournament team headed for the NBC “Hap” Dumont Kansas state tournament in Hillsboro Saturday July 12, with more than a few question marks.
Baldwin team bags another DCABA title

It just seemed to be a season-long habit for the Baldwin Bulldog 12-year-old baseball team, but they kept it exciting all the way to the end before winning the Douglas County Amateur Baseball Association tournament championship last week.
City to purchase truck for fire department

Baldwin can soon expect a new fire truck. The Baldwin City Council approved in a 4-0 vote Monday night to allocate money originally budgeted for the School Resource Officer for a new fire truck, as well as a new patrol car and police equipment.
