Downtown beautification underway
Flower pots added to street corners to make area more attractive

Downtown Baldwin is in the beginning stages of a facelift. Pots of flowers have been added to the downtown street corners, and the Baldwin Chamber of Commerce beautification committee hopes that’s just the first step in improving the visual appeal of Baldwin.
$3,000 grant awarded to BCPD for bulletproof vests

Art Walk to feature band

There will be more than just art in downtown Baldwin Friday night. This month’s Art Walk, sponsored by the Baldwin Community Arts Council, will feature not only the artwork of several area artists, but a community band and ice cream as well.
Board approves increase in student fees

Activity fees, book rentals and school lunches will be a little more expensive next year in the Baldwin School District. The Baldwin Board of Education increased some student fees Monday night in an attempt to meet the district’s $7.54 million budget for the 2003-2004 school year.

Baldwin softball bows out early in tournament

The Baldwin 15 and under girls softball team traveled to De Soto Thursday, July 10 to compete in the first round of the Tri-County League tournament. Baldwin drew the No. 1 seed in the bracket and defeated its first round opponent, Gardner 2, by a score of 21-10 after just three innings of play.
European vacation
Baldwin teens travel as ambassadors

Max Daigh and Adam and Nicki Smith saw many places this summer most students only read about in textbooks. The Baldwin trio spent June 9-29 in Europe visiting Italy, Austria, Switzerland and France as part of the People to People student ambassador program. “Everyone was saying it’s the opportunity of a lifetime,” Daigh, 15, said. “That’s why I went. And it truly was an opportunity of a lifetime.” Daigh and the Smith siblings, along with a group of students from the Topeka area, spent most of the month of June traveling through Europe and learning other countries’ cultures.
