Baldwin Track Club qualifies a dozen for next stop tour
Two groups of Baldwin Track Club members attended different meets over the weekend and 12 advanced to the next level in the summer progression of events.
Six club members finished in the top four at the AAU Region 8 Championships in Fayettville, Ark., and qualified for the AAU Nationals in Detroit.
First-place finishers were Monica Howard, sub-bantam, high jump (3-8) and triathlon; and Maurissa Shaffer, midget, 800-meter run (2:24.85) and pentathlon. Howard also finished second in the 1,500-meter run and Shaffer was second in the 400-meter dash.
Also qualifiying for nationals were: Carson Barnes, bantam, second in the 400 and 800 and third in the long jump; Allison Howard, sub-midget, second in the discus and shot put; Irone Revely, midget, third in the 400; and Jasmine Revely, youth, third in the 3,000-meter race walk.
There were also six members of the team who finished in the top four at the Missouri Valley USATF Championships at Emporia. They qualified for the Region 9 Meet in Lawrence July 9-12.
Finishing first were Courtney Harris, youth, pole vault (6-0); and Mason Johnson, midget, mini javelin (86-8).
Also qualifying for regionals were: Kelsey Heckathorne, intermediate, third in the 800; Kelli Harris, intermediate, fourth in the 400-meter hurdles; Johnson, midget, 100-meter dash; Isaac Twombley, midget, fourth in the high jump and shot put; Jacob Runner, youth, fourth in the 400; and Paul Minor, intermediate, third in the 2,000-meter steeple chase.
