Baldwin gets first snowfall of year

Baldwin had its first snow day of the year last week. Snow began falling late Wednesday afternoon and didn’t let up until the next morning leaving a five-inch blanket around Baldwin. But city staff got an early jump on the storm in an effort to keep roads clear. “The afternoon prior to the storm, they were out putting salt and sand on the roads so there would be traction as the snow came,” City Administrator Larry Paine said. Crews were back out again early Thursday morning. “They started plowing so they were ahead of the game,” Paine said.

It was a long week for the Baldwin High School Bulldogs. A real long week. The opened Jan. 21 with a 61-48 loss to Osage City and ended it Saturday with a 57-48 loss to Riley County, both Class 3A schools.

We were considering the games this week our home tournament, each team we played was a little bit better than the one before and we knew that playing Riley County would be like playing the championship game in the tournament,” said Toot.{
