HERSCHEL W. MERCHANT
Funeral Mass for Herschel W. Merchant, 79, Olathe, was Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Olathe. Mr. Merchant died Feb. 14, 2003, at Villa St. Francis Nursing Center, Olathe.
He was born Feb. 26, 1923, in Ottawa. He moved to Olathe in 1971. He was a graduate of the University of Kansas, Lawrence. He worked for the Federal Government in the Department of Defense, NASA and the Small Business Administration. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Olathe.
Survivors include his wife, Marie S. Merchant of the home; two sons, Gary and Greg Merchant, both of Olathe; two sisters, JoAnn Madl, Baldwin City, and Julie Sherman, Story City, Iowa, and five grandchildren.
Burial was at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa. Memorial Contributions may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, 3846 W. 75th St., Prairie Village, KS 66208. Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Olathe, was in charge of services.
RUSSELL IRA RANDEL
Graveside Services for Russell Ira Randel, 89, Fremont, Calif., were Monday at Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin City, with Military Honors by Dorsey Liberty Post No. 14 of the American Legion. Mr. Randel died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at Washington Hospital, Fremont, Calif.
He was born May 24, 1913, at Baldwin City, the son of Edward William and Mary Hepseybeth (McKinney) Randel. He was a veteran of WWII, serving with the U.S. Army in the South Pacific for four and one-half years. He later worked as a maintenance foreman for Peterbilt for 32 years.
He married Virginia Garland Green on July 4, 1946. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a sister, Sylvia Brooks, Kansas City, Mo.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Jo Randel.
Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin City. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, PO Box 1260, Lawrence, KS 66044.
