From Signal Staff Reports Both Baker University basketball teams fell to MidAmerica Nazarene Thursday in the Collins Gym. The Baker men dropped a 70-55 contest, while the women made it closer in a 68-61 loss.

Less than 24 hours after beating Wellsville 46-32 for their second win in a row, the Baldwin High School Bulldogs almost made it three in a row with a thrilling 72-70 overtime loss to Kansas City (Mo.) Pembroke Hill Saturday in the BHS gym.

A jam-packed parking lot at Baldwin High/Junior High School Saturday showed graphically that the second-annual Baldwin Invitational Tournament has caught the fancy of area wrestlers and their fans.

The tension was a little high between the Baldwin City Council and a representative of Midland Railway at Monday’s council meeting. Tempers flared when discussion on whether to set a public hearing to annex a section of land in west Baldwin centered on Midland’s role in the annexation.

Consider it edible art. About 200 chocolate items, some almost too beautiful to eat, will be going to the highest bidders at Sunday’s annual Chocolate Auction. The elaborate chocolate masterpieces include everything from cookies, candies and brownies to cream puffs, cheesecakes and pies. “It is the absolute best place to get anything from chocolate chip cookies to a double-chocolate, swiss mousse mocha torte,” Christy Carlisle, auction co-chair, said. “It’s beyond belief the amount of chocolate in one room.”
