Baldwin comic book artist publishes novel

Baldwin City artist Ande Parks has just made his debut into another realm with his first published writing, a “graphic novel” titled “Union Station,” which details the massacre on June 17, 1933, which left five people dead and helped shape law enforcement in the early days of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. That’s quite a list for Parks, who has called Baldwin home for about eight years while doing what he calls his “day job,” which is inking comic books such as “Superman,” “Wonderwoman” and “Spider-Man.”

Lang leads the way for BHS wrestlers

The Raytown (Mo.) South Christmas Inviational is rated as one of the toughest wrestling tournaments in the nation, according to Wrestling USA magazine. Apparently, Baldwin High School senior Derek Lang didn’t read the article. Lang, wrestling in the 160-pound weight class, became the first Bulldog wrestler ever to win first place at the two-day tournament Friday and Saturday. His 5-1 victory in the finals over Harry Keyser of Norristown, Penn., sealed the championship and capped off a perfect 8-0 day against some of the best wrestlers in the Midwest.

The Baldwin High School boys basketball team played its first game Friday night against Anderson County since losing senior Andy Hannon to injury, and was defeated 68-42.

The Baldwin High School girls’ basketball team jumped out to an early 3-0 lead against Anderson County on Friday night, and never looked back as it won 68-37, to improve its record to 4-1.
