Baldwin crews have had more than just snow plowing to keep them busy the past week. Water line breaks have been springing up all over town, and Utility Director Terry McKinney said there’s one reason for the sudden onslaught.

The weather kept Leisha Petersen outside much of last week, but not because it was nice. Instead, Petersen was outside trying to shovel the ice and snow off the sidewalk in front of Stephens Real Estate where she works. Two storm systems rolled through Baldwin last week coating the area with sleet and ice before leaving several inches of snow. Petersen spent Wednesday and Thursday cleaning off the downtown sidewalk following last Tuesday’s storm only to have to shovel several inches of snow after a second system went through the area Saturday.

BJHS basketball season comes to a close

The Baldwin Junior High School Bulldogs had more great basketball competition on Dec. 9 against Louisburg and on Thursday against Spring Hill. The teams ended their season on Thursday with great records.
Bulldog wrestlers bring home fourth place

A fourth-place finish with 12 of 14 wrestlers placing in the top eight of the 21-team field Friday and Saturday has Baldwin High School wrestling coach Kit Harris excited about the season. “I have been real impressed with this year’s team,” said Harris. “I had some uncertainties about the season, but our youngsters have stepped up and have been very competitive.”
BHS girls rebound for third-place finish

After a dissappointing 62-48 loss to Highland Park on Thursday night, the Baldwin High School girls basketball team rebounded Friday to pull off a third place finish at the Paola Invitational.
BHS boys finish fifth in tourney

The Baldwin High School Bulldog boys varsity basketball team headed over to Eudora last week to take part in this year’s Cardinal Invitational Tournament. In the first round the squad faced Topeka Highland-Park and lost a hard-fought game, 60-43.
BHS football accolades keep rolling in

It was the best season for Baldwin High School football this year and the post-season accolades show that. BHS had three players on the Lawrence Journal-World’s all-area team, 13 different players on the all-Frontier League team and two players — Micah Mason and Ricky Spotz — make all-state teams. Those are the most selections ever on all three teams.
