Graveside services for Gladys L. Early, 84, Baldwin City, were Friday at Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin City. Mrs. Early died Aug. 12, 2003, at Baldwin Care Center.

She was born Sept. 3, 1918, at Lenexa, the daughter of Remie and Ellen (Renner) Brulez. She attended schools in the Lenexa area.

She married Edwin Early on July 1, 1950, at the First United Methodist Church in Baldwin City. He died May 17, 1986.

She moved to Baldwin City in 1945, where she was employed by W.R. Vermillion and Ed Early Manufacturing Company until the company closed in the 1950s. She moved to a farm outside of Baldwin City where she and her husband owned and operated a furniture refinishing business for several years.

She was a member of the Ives Chapel United Methodist Church and the Black Jack Ladies Club.

Survivors include one daughter Dortha Collins, Scottsdale, Ariz., one grandson, four great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, one sister, Mary Barthol, one niece, one nephew and one great niece.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one grandson, Gary Deyo.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Baldwin Care Center for a future Hospice Room.

Lamb-Roberts, Baldwin City, was in charge of services.


Memorial services for Randall E. Daniels, 67, Lawrence, were Friday at Lawrence Evangelical Friends Church. Mr. Daniels died Aug. 12, 2003, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 12, 1936, at Vichy, Mo., the son of Floyd Homer and Dale Cleola (Ragan) Daniels.

He attended school at Vichy, Mo., and moved to Lawrence in 1969 from Rolla, Mo. He owned and operated Randy's Tree Service and retired in 1989. He also worked for Lawrence Paper Co., All Star Dairy, Lawrence Freight Lines and picked up old appliances around town. He was known to some as the Junkman.

He married Janet L. Craig on Feb. 15, 1973, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include sons, Homer Poor, Mo.; Bobby and Bill, both of Baldwin City; daughters, Elaine Nicholson, Kidder, Mo.; Debra Eads, St. James, Mo.; Wendy Jenkins and LaWanda Daniels, Lawrence; Randie Rusmisel, Mt. Solon, Va., and Kaye Prochnow, Pomona; a brother, Leonard Daniels, Casa Grande, Ariz., 21 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
