Art Walk to feature area fiber guild

Fiber will be the feature attraction at Friday’s Art Walk. The Kaw Valley Fiber Guild will be on hand at the third Baldwin Community Arts Council Art Walk this summer displaying a number of fiber-made items.
Rural church to celebrate 135-year anniversary

St. John’s United Church of Christ has three large scrapbooks filled with photos, newspaper clippings, church bulletins and numerous other items documenting its history including a diary written by its first minister. It’s not surprising the scrapbooks are bulging with artifacts considering the information they contain document the Worden church’s entire 135 years of existence.

For the 96th straight time, the Vinland Fair was a crowd pleaser. Just ask Katharine Kelley, who has only missed a few of them. Kelley, who is 94, has been going to the Vinland Fair since she was a baby. That’s not quite all 96 fairs.
Baldwin to host police workshop

Baldwin City Police Chief Mike McKenna believes this week will be a good learning experience for area law enforcement officers. Baldwin will be host to a police ethics and integrity workshop Thursday, and 40 to 45 area law enforcement officers, including all of the Baldwin police officers, are expected attend.
Board OK’s $7.5 million budget

The Baldwin Board of Education had no problem approving the district’s budget for the 2003-2004 school year, but some board members said they would like to take a closer look at how the money is actually allocated.
Sports action about to heat up again

From Signal Staff Reports Sports action has been slow the past two weeks around Baldwin City, but that’s all about to change. Monday not only marks the first day of school in the Baldwin district, but also the first day of practices for fall sports at Baldwin High School. That means football, volleyball, girls tennis and cross country participants will be hard at it again.{
