Arrests made in rape case
Two Lawrence men were arrested and charged for the rape of a Baldwin woman at her apartment in July.
A 26-year-old man was arrested Friday and a 29-year-old man was arrested Saturday by Baldwin police and booked in to the Douglas County Jail.
The two men had their first court appearance Monday, where they both received a $75,000 bond. One was later released on bond.
Baldwin Police Chief Mike McKenna said the rape of the 45-year-old woman occurred sometime between 2 and 5 a.m. July 13 when the woman allowed the two men into her apartment. He said the two men, whom the woman did not know, forced her into the bedroom and assaulted her.
Police were called after the woman sought help from neighbors. She was treated at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and released.
McKenna said the two men are brothers and former Baldwin residents. The two were arrested in Lawrence after the BCPD obtained search warrants.
"The reason this case came together as quickly as it did was because of the good work of the Baldwin police officers," he said.
