New city administrator gets settled in Baldwin

City budget OK’d; utility scrutinized

The Baldwin city budget for the 2004 fiscal year was approved by the Baldwin City Council Monday night, but not before some close scrutiny by resident Michael C. Green.
Arrests made in rape case

Two Lawrence men were arrested and charged for the rape of a Baldwin woman at her apartment in July. A 26-year-old man was arrested Friday and a 29-year-old man was arrested Saturday by Baldwin police and booked in to the Douglas County Jail.
Thomas attracts crowds

Larry Langley had been planning on taking his 4-year-old son, Alex, for a ride on Thomas the Tank Engine since the tickets went on sale in May. But when the Langleys made the trip from Topeka to Midland Railway Friday, Alex had no idea why they were there. “We haven’t told him he’s riding Thomas,” Langley said. “He’ll be surprised.” In fact, Thomas wasn’t in the depot when they arrived, and Langley said his son had no idea the popular engine was there. Langley said Alex, who is a Thomas fanatic, would be surprised.
Junior high football camp goes well

Tracksters medal at nationals

The Baldwin Track Club had four medalists at the AAU Nationals last week at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Mich. The top eight athletes in each event and division medal, with 35-40 participants in each.
Lauridsen wins Baldwin Open crown again

It was deja vu all over again at the Baldwin Open Golf Tournament Sunday. Temperatures were hot, just like last year. And, when the 49 entrants for the 53rd annual tourney finished, Scott Lauridsen was again the champion — just like last year.
