Big week for Bulldog softball
It was a big week for the Baldwin High School softball team as the Bulldogs racked up three wins, one against Spring Hill and two against Paola.
Baldwin traveled to Spring Hill last Tuesday and split a pair of tough games.
"Our hitting wasn't very good in the first game, but luckily we pulled things together for the second," said junior Haydon Hubbel.
Spring Hill won the first game 6-2, but Baldwin rallied in the second to win 6-5.
"We played really solid defensively," said senior Katie Martin. "We ended up hitting pretty well, too."
On Thursday, Baldwin played a doubleheader in Paola. Baldwin beat the Panthers 6-0 in the first game. Martin was 3-for-4 batting, had two runs and three runs batted in. Junior Kari Garrison was also 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. The second game was even more exciting as senior Anna Skaggs hit a double with the bases loaded to bring Baldwin back from behind. Martin also pitched five shutout innings in relief to improve the Bulldogs' record to 6-3.
"We played OK. It was good to get out with two wins, especially the second game when we were behind," said Skaggs. "I thought with the weather conditions and with it being prom the next day, we played good."
The next action for the varsity softball team is May 6, against the Wellsville Eagles.
