Softball Bulldogs top Hays, 4-3
The Baldwin High School softball team opened the season with an exciting 4-3 win on Friday at the BHS diamond. To make it that much sweeter, the game was against Hays which had been undefeated against the Bulldogs since the inaugural season in 1999.
It wasn't easy, though, as in the top of the seventh inning Hays tied it up at 3-3. Baldwin closed out the inning, though, and thanks to a Kari Garrison game-winning RBI, the Bulldogs came away successful.
"We were very excited. Especially since it was our first time to beat Hays," said senior Kayla Pringle. "Every year it is really close, but this year we did it."
Kasey Pittenger established herself at pitcher, proving success as the team's starter.
"From a catcher's point of view, I thought Kasey threw well and kept her composure on the mound," said junior Mandi Daigh. "When things got interesting in the seventh inning, Kasey kept it together and we got through it."
The team is now excited and thirsty for action as they headed into Tuesday's game at Eudora. They feel this is a great start to what may lie ahead.
"We never gave up," said Pringle. "If we keep that up, then we can compete with anybody."
Following the Eudora game, which results weren't available for by press time, the Bulldogs will head back home to face Gardner-Edgerton on Thursday.
