Coal Creek Library

to be open Sundays

Coal Creek Library, Vinland, will be open 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays, April through October. Coal Creek Library is the oldest library in Kansas with continual service. Available at the library are old books, news clippings, local history, etc.

Churches announce

Easter services

The Clearfield United Methodist Church will host the Maundy Thursday communion service for the Clearfield-Ives Chapel churches at 7 p.m. Thursday at Clearfield.

Ives Chapel United Methodist Church will host Good Friday services for the Clearfield- Ives Chapel churches at 7 p.m. Friday. Easter Sunrise services will be at 6:30 a.m. Sunday at the golf course. Breakfast will follow in Fellowship Hall.

Resurrection Day services at Ives Chapel will be at 11 a.m. Everyone is asked to bring a flower to place on a cross. The public is welcome to attend all services at Clearfield and Ives Chapel.

The Nurture, Outreach and Witness Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wed., April 23, at the home of Joy Uthoff. Administrative Council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the church.

Round-Up scheduled

for Kindergartners

Children who will be five years old on or before Aug. 31, 2003, and live in the Baldwin Elementary attendance area are eligible for Kindergarten Round-Up. Call the Baldwin Elementary School office at 594-2444 if your child meets the requirements. Parent's Information Night will be May 7, at 7 p.m. at Baldwin Elementary School.

ESU to honor

Shepherd Scholars

Emporia State University will honor 13 juniors for their outstanding academic achievements and contributions at the university. To be eligible, a student must be an ESU junior who has completed at least 60 credit hours of coursework and has maintained a minimum 3.5 grade point average. Students must be nominated for the honor and all nominations undergo a rigorous committee review. Honorees receive a plaque commemorating their selection, a $1,200 scholarship, and are designated ESU Shepherd Scholars during their senior year. The 2003 Shepherd Scholars include Natalie J. Moreau, Baldwin City, majoring in business administration and economics.

Antiques discussion

set at museum

Vintage jewelry will be the topic at the Know Your Antiques meeting today at 2 p.m. at the Watkins Community Museum of History, 1047 Massachusetts St., Lawrence.

Sierra Club

to have meeting

The Sierra Club will have its April meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Lawrence Public Library.

Reception to be held

for museum director

The Douglas County Historical Society will have a reception for Rebecca Phipps, Director of Watkins Community Museum of History, at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the museum, 1047 Massachusetts St. The public is welcome to attend.

BBB receives

scam information

The Better Business Bureau has announced a scam concerning a call from someone claiming to represent the BBB Consumer Hotline. The caller asked for a credit card number to verify information on file. The BBB warns against giving out any personal information including social security number, credit card and bank account numbers. Call the BBB at (785) 232-0454 or Douglas County citizens at (785) 766-2009.

Vinland Valley 4-H

has meeting

The Vinland Valley 4-H Club April meeting was at Vinland Elementary School. The Jr. officers were in charge. Krystal Bateson, president, called the meeting to order. Zoey Fife read the minutes. Sandy Stone presented leaders' reports. Theresa Bateson presented record book updates. Level I Food Groups led project talks. The May 5 meeting will be at Vinland Elementary School, at 7 p.m. Host families are the Moore and the Baker families.
