The Baker University mens soccer team had a busy week with
three games in five days. On Tuesday, the men hosted Oklahoma City University. In the tied game, Ben Martin, a freshman from Lansing, scored Baker's only goal on an assist from Barry Cummings, a sophomore from Overland Park.
On Wednesday, Baker hosted MidAmerica Nazarene and came out with a 1-0 win. Eric Taylor, a senior from Wichita, recorded his third shutout. Baker's goal was scored by Blake Reynolds, a senior from Bellevue, Wash. The assist came from Jason Belisle, a sophomore from Garland, Texas.
Saturday the Wildcats traveled to Omaha, Neb., to take on Bellevue College. Baker won with a score of 1-0 on a goal from Barry Cummings, improving the Wildcat's record to 8-2-3 (4-0-1).
The mens soccer team will next host Central Methodist today at 4 p.m.
The Baker University mens and womens cross-country teams hosted the Wildcat Invitational at the Baldwin City Golf Course on
Friday. Kerry Fitzgerald, a sophomore from Overland Park, was the only woman running for the Wildcats. She finished 29th in the 5K run with a time of 22:22.
Leading the pack on the mens side was Matt Hallauer, a junior from Holton. He finished seventh in the mens 8K run with a time of 26:59.
On Saturday the runners traveled to Orlando, Fla., to take part in the Walt Disney World Classic. The women had a strong showing placing seventh overall with 261 points and first in the NAIA division with 29 points. Jenny Schultz, a senior from Sun City, Ariz., led the
Wildcats, placing 39th with a time of 20:14. Blair Spencer, a freshman from Alma, was right behind her in 40th with a time of 20:17. Morgan Ouimette, a senior from Grandview, Mo., finished in 42nd place with a time of 20:25.
On the mens side, Cole Gladhart, a junior from Baldwin City, placed 101st with a time of 28:35. Michael Donnelly, a junior from Oklahoma City, Okla., finished 107th with a time of 28:46. The
Wildcat men finished in 20th place overall with 531 points and 4th place in the NAIA division with 102 points.
Baker's next meet will be on Saturday in Fayetteville, Ark.
The Baker volleyball team traveled to St. Charles, Mo., for the Lindenwood Invitational. The Wildcats won all three games that they played. They defeated Lindenwood University in
five games (30-21, 30-27, 26-30, 19-30, 15-13). Baker's last two games were against Southern Nazarene. They won both matches in four games (22-30, 30-14, 30-27, 30-27 and 26-30, 30-14, 30-25, 30-20).
Baker's next game was against Evangel University on Tuesday in Springfield, Mo. Results weren't available by press time.
