Boy hit by car suffers minor injuries
Xavier Robinson, the 7-year-old boy struck by a vehicle at the intersection of U.S. Highway 56 and Sixth Street around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, suffered only minor injuries. The first grader returned to school at Baldwin Elementary Thursday.
Baldwin City Police Sgt. Colleen Larson said the boy only suffered minor scrapes and cuts as a result of the accident, but was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital as a precaution.
Sgt. Larson said the accident occurred when the driver of a west-bound car was blinded by sunshine. The driver saw one child on a bike, but didn't see the other, she said.
The accident occurred during one of the busiest times at the intersection, which is controlled by stop signs on Sixth Street only.
